The Ultimate Brewing Guide: Coffee & Tea

Whether you're chasing the perfect espresso or a calming cup of chamomile, brewing is both a science and an art. Here's everything you need to know to elevate your cup at home.

☕ Coffee Brewing Methods

Pour-Over

Pour-over is the gold standard for showcasing single-origin flavors — ideal for our single-origin collection.

  • Grind: Medium-fine
  • Water Temp: 195–205°F (90–96°C)
  • Ratio: 1:15 coffee to water (e.g., 20g coffee : 300ml water)
  • Brew Time: 3–4 minutes

Tip: Bloom your grounds with twice their weight in water for 30 seconds before the full pour to release CO₂ and unlock deeper flavor.

French Press

Rich, full-bodied, and forgiving — great for our signature blends.

  • Grind: Coarse
  • Water Temp: 200°F (93°C)
  • Ratio: 1:12 coffee to water
  • Brew Time: 4 minutes, then press slowly

Tip: Let it sit for 30 seconds after pressing before pouring to reduce sediment in your cup.

Espresso

Concentrated, bold, and the base for lattes and cappuccinos.

  • Grind: Extra fine
  • Water Temp: 190–196°F (88–91°C)
  • Ratio: 1:2 coffee to espresso (e.g., 18g in : 36g out)
  • Brew Time: 25–30 seconds

Tip: Tamp with consistent, even pressure — about 30 lbs — for a balanced extraction.

Cold Brew

Smooth, low-acid, and perfect for warm days.

  • Grind: Extra coarse
  • Water Temp: Cold or room temperature
  • Ratio: 1:8 coffee to water
  • Brew Time: 12–24 hours in the refrigerator

Tip: Strain through a fine mesh or cheesecloth for a clean, sediment-free concentrate.

🍵 Tea Brewing Methods

Green Tea

Delicate and grassy — easily over-steeped, so temperature control is key.

  • Water Temp: 160–180°F (70–80°C)
  • Amount: 1 tsp per 8 oz
  • Steep Time: 1–3 minutes

Tip: Never use boiling water — it scorches the leaves and turns the tea bitter.

Black Tea

Bold and robust — pairs beautifully with milk or honey.

  • Water Temp: 200–212°F (93–100°C)
  • Amount: 1 tsp per 8 oz
  • Steep Time: 3–5 minutes

Tip: For iced tea, brew double-strength and pour over ice immediately.

Oolong Tea

Complex and floral — sits beautifully between green and black.

  • Water Temp: 185–205°F (85–96°C)
  • Amount: 1–2 tsp per 8 oz
  • Steep Time: 2–5 minutes

Tip: Oolong leaves can be re-steeped 2–3 times, with each steep revealing new flavor notes.

Herbal & Chamomile

Caffeine-free and soothing — perfect for winding down.

  • Water Temp: 208–212°F (98–100°C)
  • Amount: 1–2 tsp per 8 oz
  • Steep Time: 5–7 minutes

Tip: Cover your cup while steeping to trap the essential oils and maximize aroma.
